Overview
What Is FiberLert?
FiberLert is a fast, accurate, and safe non-contact solution for verifying fiber activity, polarity, and connectivity. With no setup or interpretation required, the tool is user friendly and accessible even for employees with no technical background.
Simply place the FiberLert in front of the fiber end face or port. A light and tone will indicate an active fiber (850 nm to 1625 nm). Because its detector operates without contact, FiberLert reduces the risk of contamination and damage, so it can also safely verify disconnection before a routine inspection.
FiberLert comes with a range of safety and reliability features designed to help teams maximize their resources and protect employees. Our LightBeat™ technology flashes to indicate that the tool is in operation, and to demonstrate battery power. FiberLert automatically shuts down after five minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life. The FiberLert even comes with a two-year warranty.
The FiberLert fiber testing light is small enough to fit in a pocket. Its small size makes it easy to reach into cramped patch panels and determine whether a port is live. And its contactless detector makes transceiver testing so easy that technicians can spot any problems and make repairs quickly.
FiberLert is suitable for ports and patch cords, including SM, MM, UPC, and APC connections. Use the fiber testing light to test single mode, multimode, UPC, and APC patch cords and ports.
Why Use FiberLert?
FiberLert is accurate, safe, and user friendly. It can quickly check transceivers, connectors, and cables for connectivity without a long, complicated setup process.
New employees can learn to use FiberLert with minimal training, and safety features are built in — no temptation to look at a live fiber cable. With FiberLert, fiber light testing is quick and intuitive to use, making the tool a natural fit for any team operating with a lean crew.
Sean Kelly, RCDD, CFHP, and Technical Director of Light Brigade, described FiberLert as “the most useful and easiest-to-use fiber optic indication and troubleshooting tool available,” adding that the tool was “one thing on the wish list that has recently become a reality.”
Kelly values the FiberLert for providing fast, accurate information with a minimum of setup. Unlike other tools on the market, he says the FiberLert allows you to see exactly which fiber or duplexed port of connector is live – all without contact.
Kelly’s colleague Phil Shoemaker agrees that the FiberLert is an invaluable tool: “It is a simple-to-use, innovative tool that makes detecting the presence of a signal easy and accurate. It can show which port on a duplex transceiver is live, if the transceiver itself is active, if signal is exiting the far end of a link or patch cord, and whether it is channel A or B. This is not only valuable for fiber network troubleshooting or checking polarity, but also as an increased safety measure. We always stress that you should never inspect a live fiber path. Before FiberLert, it was somewhere between a guessing game and a time-consuming, multi-step process. But with FiberLert, it is easy and fast to verify the status of an optical path.”
