660 and CIR

CIR is short for Committed Information Rate, which is a specified amount of guaranteed bandwidth. CIR is measured in bits per second on a Frame Relay service. The company providing the frame relay service can specify the CIR level. This level is a guarantee that the customers data will not be marked for discard if the customers data rate is at or below the CIR number.

The 660 can monitor and suggest a CIR level. (The 660 will use its default values if the customer does not specify the value.) You can access the CIR functions as follows:

  • Turn the knob on the 660 to MONITOR.
  • Press TEST to start the Monitor function.
  • Down arrow to CIR Advisor and press ENTER.
You should now be viewing the CIR information. The default values will be displayed at the top. These values can be changed in Setup prior to the Monitor mode being activated.
