Setting A Custom Bit Pattern On The 635 QuickBert

The 635 QuickBert has eleven preset test patterns that may be used to perform a BERT test to qualify a test pair.

The test pattern called User may be programmed for a custom bit pattern. This pattern is a 64-bit user-programmable pattern, with a default pattern of 1:16. The 1:16 pattern is a repeating 16-bit pattern in the following form: 0100 0000 0000 0000.

When the unit is turned on, it automatically reverts to the default pattern. To set the user pattern to something other than the default, proceed with the following:

Press the LOOP CODE key and RESULTS DOWN key simultaneously. This will display the current user pattern. Twenty bits will be displayed on each of the top three lines. Four bits will be displayed in the first four character positions of the bottom line.

Also displayed on the bottom line will be "user ".

  • Press the TX CLK SOURCE key to scroll to the left and the LOOP CODE key to scroll to the right through the bits. The currently selected bit will blink to show the cursor location.
  • Press the RESULTS UP key to set either "0" or "1." (The RESULTS UP key toggles between "0" and "1.")
  • Press and hold the RESULTS UP key for approximately two seconds to clear all bits (in the current length of the pattern) to "1."
  • When on the last character of the pattern, press the RESULTS DOWN key to delete the last character.
  • Press and hold the RESULTS DOWN key for approximately two seconds to clear all bits (in the current length of the pattern) to "0."
  • Press the RESTART key to erase all bits and start with a pattern length of one bit that is set to "0."
  • To exit the user pattern setup, press the TEST MODE key. The previously displayed results and setups will be displayed.
