Listed are the typical causes of wiremap failures.

Open

  • Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or
  • Punchdown blocks
  • Faulty connections
  • Damaged connector
  • Damaged cable
  • Wrong pairs selected in setup
  • Wrong application for cable

Split Pair

  • Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block

Reversed Pairs

  • Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block

Crossed Pairs

  • Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block
  • Mix of 568A and 568B wiring standards (12 and 36 crossed)
  • Crossover cables used where not needed (12 and 36 crossed)

Short

  • Damaged connector
  • Damaged cable
  • Conductive material stuck between pins at connector
  • Improper connector termination
  • Wrong application for cable
