Listed are the typical causes of wiremap failures.
Open
- Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or
- Punchdown blocks
- Faulty connections
- Damaged connector
- Damaged cable
- Wrong pairs selected in setup
- Wrong application for cable
Split Pair
- Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block
Reversed Pairs
- Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block
Crossed Pairs
- Wires connected to wrong pins at connector or punchdown block
- Mix of 568A and 568B wiring standards (12 and 36 crossed)
- Crossover cables used where not needed (12 and 36 crossed)
Short
- Damaged connector
- Damaged cable
- Conductive material stuck between pins at connector
- Improper connector termination
- Wrong application for cable
